Choosing the Right LayerUpdated 5 days ago
Layers — Polar Fleece Half Zip, Sherpa Fleece Full Zip & Sherpa Fleece Hoodie
A good fleece is the layer you'll reach for again and again — under a shell on the trail, or on its own by the fire. All of VOITED's fleece layers are made from 100% recycled fleece with hard-wearing ripstop detailing; here's how to pick the right one.
Which VOITED fleece layer is right for me?
The choice comes down to how warm and plush you want it, and whether you prefer a zip or a hood.
| Polar Fleece Half Zip | Sherpa Fleece Full Zip | Sherpa Fleece Hoodie | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feel | Smooth, lightweight polar fleece | Plush, warm sherpa fleece | Plush sherpa-style fleece |
| Warmth | Lightest | Warmest | Warm |
| Cut | Zip-neck pullover | Full-zip jacket | Pullover hoodie with hood |
| Best for | Milder days & active layering | Cold days & standalone mid-layer | Casual, everyday warmth |
Polar Fleece Half Zip — the light layer
The lightest, most breathable of the three. Made from 100% recycled polar fleece with a clean two-panel build, a cosy zip-neck and brushed tricot-lined pockets, it's the easy layer for breezy coastlines and crisp morning trails — and slips neatly under a shell.
Best for: mild days, active layering and shoulder-season adventures.
Sherpa Fleece Full Zip — the warm mid-layer
The warmest option. Crafted from plush 100% recycled Sherpa fleece with a durable 50D ripstop chest panel and secure zipped pockets, the full zip makes it easy to throw on and off as a standalone mid-layer — from mountain mornings to chilly evenings by the fire.
Best for: colder days and anyone who wants a proper, cosy mid-layer.
Sherpa Fleece Hoodie — the casual everyday
Sherpa warmth in a relaxed, retro-styled pullover hoodie. It has a plush recycled fleece body, ripstop accents and an adjustable 3-piece hood, making it the most casual, "comfort-of-home-outdoors" option of the three.
Best for: everyday wear, road trips and laid-back layering.
The short version:
- for the lightest layer choose the Polar Fleece Half Zip;
- for the warmest choose the Sherpa Fleece Full Zip;
- for casual everyday warmth with a hood choose the Sherpa Fleece Hoodie.
Sherpa vs Polar fleece — what's the difference?
It's all about the texture and warmth of the fabric:
- Polar fleece is smooth, lightweight and breathable, with a flatter finish. It traps less air than sherpa, so it's cooler and better suited to active use and layering under a shell. That's the fabric behind the Polar Fleece Half Zip.
- Sherpa fleece is the plush, fuzzy, teddy-bear-style fabric. The deeper pile traps more warmth and feels cosier against the skin, making it the warmer choice. It's used in the Sherpa Fleece Full Zip and the Sherpa Fleece Hoodie.
Both are made from 100% recycled polyester, so the decision is simply warmth and feel: reach for sherpa when you want maximum cosiness, and polar when you want a lighter, more breathable layer.
How should I care for my fleece?
To keep it soft and looking new, machine wash at 30°C with minimal detergent, and avoid bleach and fabric softener (softener clogs the fibres and reduces warmth). Washing the fleece inside out helps minimise pilling, which is natural in textured fabrics. Air drying is recommended — don't tumble dry.
