Care & StorageUpdated 5 days ago

Keeping your gear performing, wash after wash

Well-looked-after gear lasts longer, performs better — and stays under guarantee. Here's how to wash, dry, re-proof and store your VOITED kit. Always check the care label on your item first, as details can vary by product.

How do I wash my VOITED gear?

Most VOITED blankets and apparel are machine washable at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Use minimal detergent — too much leaves a residue that dulls the water- and stain-resistant finish — and skip fabric softener and bleach, which break down the water-repellent coating.

To catch microfibres and protect the fabric, we recommend washing inside a GUPPYFRIEND Washing Bag.

Can I tumble dry it?

Best not to — air dry instead. Tumble drying can damage blankets and insulation, so lay the item flat or hang it to dry, away from direct heat.

How do I keep the water-repellency working?

VOITED's water-repellent items use a fluorine-free DWR finish (such as Bionic Finish® Eco). Over time — through use, washing and everyday dirt — water stops beading and starts soaking in. When that happens, re-proof the item with a technical wash-in or spray-on water-repellent treatment, following the product's instructions. Keeping the fabric clean helps the finish last longer, too.

A quick note: blankets and changewear are water-resistant, not fully waterproof — re-proofing refreshes that resistance rather than making them waterproof.

How should I care for my footwear?

Spot-clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then air dry away from direct heat — radiators or strong sun can warp or stiffen the materials. Let them dry fully before the next wear, and check the care guidance for your specific pair.

How should I store my gear?

  • Make sure everything is clean and completely dry before storing — damp storage leads to odours and mildew.
  • For insulated items (blankets, the Slumber Jacket), store them loosely rather than tightly compressed for long periods, so the insulation keeps its loft. The stuff sack is ideal for travel; for long-term storage, looser is better.
  • Keep gear out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade colours over time.

Good to know: Caring for your gear isn't only about longevity — it keeps it covered. The VOITED Guarantee doesn't cover damage from improper care, so following these steps protects both your kit and your claim. See The VOITED Guarantee.
